Project summary
The main purpose of the grant proposal is development of synthetic approaches to a novel type of planarly chiral 3D aromatic compounds possessing [2.2]paracyclophane units and extended p-conjugated systems, to study their properties, and explore their application in on-surface chemistry. The synthetic approach will based on judicious use of chiral building blocks and application of the state of art techniques of organic synthesis allowing controlled synthesis of the respective chiral U- and Z-shaped molecules. In the next step chemico-physical properties of the prepared compounds will evaluated by using various experimental (absorption and emission, CPL, electrochemistry, X-ray diffraction analysis, etc. ) and theoretical methods (DFT calculations, etc.). Finally, deposition of selected compounds on metal surfaces will be studied with the aim of making homochiral clusters and nanoribbons.
